Food as Medicine

Food will always be at the center of every patient's healing journey.
There is no way around it, food is medicine and if we respect this principle, health results will be amplified.

We will discuss the importance of a fresh food diet with every pet parent and work with you to find the best possible option for you and your animal companion. From providing home cooked recipes to making commercial fresh or raw food recommendations, our veterinarian Dr Caroline Jetté is devoted to providing you with the right diet recommendation.

Too many animal companions present with chronic diseases that can be helped by a real food diet. From allergies to a cancer diagnosis, feeding your pet a diet that is processed as little as possible is the first step.

Why feed a real food diet?

  • To treat (sometimes cure!) a disease process. For example,  Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Allergies, Chronic vomiting or diarrhea, Seizures, Cushing's disease, Cancer, etc.

  • To prevent chronic diseases from taking place in the body. Why not prevent disease? It is often much easier to PREVENT rather than treat a (sometimes many) chronic issue(s).

  • To feed a species appropriate diet. Which basically means to feed our animal companions a diet they were meant for. Cats and dogs are carnivores and need a high percentage of protein/fat in their diet and very little carbohydrates (wheat, corn, soy, etc.). Just like humans, our pets need real foods to not only survive, but thrive!

  • Unfortunately, as more and more scientific research is conducted, we know it is only a matter of time before we start seeing problems when a pet is on a processed kibble diet.
